Project description: This project involves co-operation between scientific units, private industry and advisory services for the development, dissemination and preparation for implementation of a strategy to prevent the occurrence of biotypes of weeds resistant to herbicides in Poland and eliminate such biotypes. Within the framework of the project, four species of weeds, which have already developed herbicide resistance in Poland were selected, namely: silky bent grass [Apera spica-venti (L.) P.B.], black grass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.), poppy field (Papaver rhoeas L.) and cornflower (Centaurea cyanus L.).

The research phase of the project consists of 5 work packages:

1. Identification of habitats with herbicide-resistant weeds (HR) in Poland.

2. Molecular analysis of weed resistance to ALS inhibitors.

3. Biological characteristics of HR biotypes determining their survival in the agro-ecosystem.

4. Analysis of economic losses caused by weed biotypes resistant to herbicides.

5. Strategy to minimize herbicide resistant weed.
