The statutory researches performed by the Institute of Plant Protection – NRI aim at supporting the activities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the scope of the priority tasks and at supporting of agricultural sciences in the scope of plant protection (mainly field crops), as well as at improving the competitiveness of the Polish agriculture by:

• performing basic research in the scope of statutory activities which improves the scientific foundations of the integrated plant protection, ensures food and agricultural environment safety and the preservation of biodiversity,
• development of plant protection programmes in ecological agriculture,
• creation of conditions convenient for innovative research in the scope of the precision agriculture. The modern research infrastructure established in the recent years has increased the efficiency in receiving domestic and international grants (Horyzont 2000), scholarships for young outstanding scientists,
• implementation and dissemination activities which promote the achievements of the Institute in Poland and abroad.

In the last years of the activities of IPP – NRI, there has been a significant increase of the number of research cases on the new diagnostics methods in plant protection with the application of modern tools of molecular biology. The result of these activities is a great progress in the publishing and implementation activities, improvement of the qualifications and education of the new scientists and research employees, as well as the number of the registered patents. The data presented above constitute measurable evidence conforming the development of the Institute. Its scientific value is reflected in the numerous publications.
