  • Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology

The Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology has modern laboratories adapted to work with closed use of genetically modified microorganisms, classified in the second category of threat. The Laboratory has modern equipment enabling to conduct research with the use of innovative molecular biology techniques.

Research and development equipment (selected items):

  • a chamber for sterile operation with laminar airflow and HEPA filters,
  • systems for classical PCR reaction (thermocyclers),
  • real-time PCR, High Resolution Melting (HRM),
  • digital PCR system (digital droplet PCR, ddPCR),
  • systems for horizontal and vertical electrophoresis,
  • bi-directional electrophoresis system,
  • Western blot system,
  • systems for visualization and archiving of gels,
  • UV-VIS spectrophotometers,
  • fluorometer Qubit,
  • centrifuges, shakers, heaters and biological incubators, homogenizers (ball mill), electroporters, autoclaves.

Service offer:

  • diagnostics of pathogens (bacteria and viruses) and pests (insects and nematodes), their molecular characteristics and genetic diversity,
  • development of molecular diagnostic methods for the detection, identification and differentiation of pests (based on PCR, real-time PCR, HRM and ddPCR),
  • detection of GMOs,
  • study of the influence of chemical substances on bacteria, designation of the MIC and MBC values for the tested substances.
